Diamond quality is judged by four criteria known as the 4Cs.
- Carat: The weight; 1 carat is 0.2 grams. Price rises sharply with size.
- Color: Colorless stones are rarer and more valuable.
- Clarity: How few natural marks the stone holds inside.
- Cut: How light returns from the stone, and the criterion that most affects brilliance.
Tip
On a tight budget, not compromising on cut is usually the wisest route to a sparkling look. Certified stones document these criteria; we recommend asking for the certificate when you choose.
